Some languages use the ACCENT GRAVE, APOSTROPHE, CARET, and TILDE widely. Examples of such characters are as shown below:
These vowel characters a, e, i, o, and u with accent graves can be typed directly from the keyboard. Using the Standard English keyboard, you can type both the UPPERCASE and the lowercase characters.

To type a lowercase character by using a key combination that includes the SHIFT key, hold down the CTRL+SHIFT+symbol keys simultaneously, and then release them before you type the letter.
(E.g. press and hold CTRL+SHIFT+the key on the left side of key 1, release them and then press A)
